I was born in Shandong, China, in 1993. My mother found me always falling in darkness because I could not see the barriers. She took me to see doctors in Peking, and at four years of age, I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. During the past twenty years, my vision field was decreasing in medium speed (compared to other RP patients). From 1997 to 2012 I received traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture – each course lasted about six weeks in the hospital. Unfortunately, there was no significant effect, and my condition continued to worsen. I got electroacupuncture in Shanghai for two years from 2013.

I’m 36 years old from Atlanta, in the United States. The first sign of my loss of vision was in April 2015 when things began to look foggy. I asked my daughters if it was foggy outside. They said no, and I thought they were joking. Next, I noticed that I wasn’t able to see a median in the road, so I ran over it. The last sign to happen was that I no longer could see my face in the mirror. After visiting with an optometrist, he suggested that I see a neurologist. Dr. Cohen, a neurologist, ordered an MRI. Brain imaging results showed that I had a brain tumor in my left frontal lobe that he described as unique and different from others he’d seen before.

My name is Ian Elsey. I’m 56 years old and live in the United Kingdom. At 53, I was diagnosed with bilateral non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This means I’ve lost vision in both my eyes due to optic nerve damage. In my case, the cause is unknown. Due to my severe loss of vision, I was registered as severely sight impaired (blind). I had a small amount of vision remaining in both eyes, but this was clouded and distorted. This meant I couldn’t work, drive or enjoy simple pleasures such as reading and watching TV.

I’m 19 years old boxer from Chester, England. I’m writing this a year to the day I lost sight in my left eye, which was Feb. 17, 2016. While preparing for a competition, I was sparring and took a blow to my left eye. There was no pain - just instant darkness. I attended numerous hospitals, had many tests done, but nobody could help. My dreams of boxing as a professional were gone. It affected my work initially, as I’m a plumber, but my main problem was that I could no longer box. To know this was no longer an option was really tough.

I am 67, live in Australia, and worked as a musician/teacher until 2010 when suddenly  my right eye was affected by NAION (Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy) and I lost my sight in this eye. I commenced an intravenous steroid therapy program at the Eye & Ear Hospital in Melbourne and unfortunately this did not improve the vision loss. To my regret 10 months later Ischemic Optic Neuropathy struck in my left eye and the doctors couldn’t do anything for me & exactly 14 days later I was completely blind.

Before I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa in November 2015, I thought that my vision was normal and difficulties to see at the night were just some minimal discomfort. Visit to optician in February 2015 revealed that I had initial narrowing of the visual field what I had not fully realized before. After reading more about Retinitis Pigmentosa I understood the reason why my night vision had worsened. My doctor recommended me to control my vision and next follow-up examination in November 2015 showed further deterioration since my first examinations.

    Retinitis Pigmentosa
In December 2016, my six year old son, Ayden, was diagnosed with severe bilateral optic neuritis. At that time, he was only able to see hand movements with one eye, and had slightly better vision in the other eye. After undergoing several months’ therapy in Australia, Ayden’s vision showed no improvement. Then, in June 2017, we travelled to Berlin, Germany so Ayden could receive two weeks of treatment at the Fedorov Restore Vision Clinic. Since his treatment, Ayden’s vision has improved substantially. He’s regained his independence, and is now scootering to school most days unassisted; this was just not possible before treatment because of his severe visual impairment. Ayden’s outcome is fantastic. I would recommend to any parents to bring their child for this treatment.

    Bilateral Optic Neuritis

I had gotten into a bad motorcycle accident about five years ago, and lost most of my vision – I only had about 10% left. Doctors in the USA told me there was no chance of my vision coming back, that my condition was permanent and life-long. I could not drive anymore, I lost my job and I couldn't afford my apartment by myself.
Now, after treatment at the Restore Vision Clinic, in Berlin, my visual field is much wider and I am able to see colors more clearly. I am more independent at home - I can cook, I build things and can do all kinds of stuff I wasn’t able to do after my accident, like walk downtown by myself. My life is so much better now that I've become so much more independent. I can't say how appreciative I am about this place.
