      Situation

Reggie’s story is one of resilience, hope, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of a brighter future. Born with perfect vision, Reggie enjoyed a typical childhood filled with joy and curiosity—until age six, when everything changed. During a critical open-heart surgery, Reggie suffered a devastating stroke. When he awoke, his family and doctors were confronted with the shocking realization that he couldn’t see.

A vision assessment in June 2023 revealed the depth of Reggie’s visual challenges. Diagnosed with Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI), his brain struggled to interpret what his eyes could capture, making it difficult for him to recognize faces, objects, and symbols. His world was clouded by inconsistencies, and he couldn’t fully trust what he saw.

In daily life, these limitations affected almost everything. Tasks like reading or identifying objects required text as large as font N36, and even then, he could only see images held very close. For context, Reggie needed to be within 3 meters to see what others could discern from nearly 10 meters away. This restricted vision also required him to tilt his head down to keep things in sight, complicating movement and navigation, even in familiar spaces.

At school, Reggie’s need for large, uncluttered text and proximity to the teacher underscored his difficulties. He often needed extra time and frequent breaks to process visuals, and routine tasks like reading or following instructions were exhausting. This took a toll on his confidence, and his family saw the frustration he felt in new environments or when he struggled to recognize people without hearing their voices first. For Reggie, CVI blurred not only his vision but his sense of connection to the world around him.

After discovering the Fedorov Restore Vision Clinic in Germany, Reggie’s family traveled to Berlin in October 2023, where he began Fedorov Restoration Therapy. This groundbreaking therapy, based on non-invasive electrical stimulation, is designed to activate partially damaged visual pathways and improve visual processing in the brain.

Following his therapy, Reggie’s family immediately began noticing improvements. He started to identify numbers and letters and even returned to his favorite activities, like watching football and playing games on his iPad. Reggie’s everyday life has seen transformations that were once unimaginable. Now, he can independently select and watch his favorite YouTube videos, recognize different types of cars on the street, and even point out birds and helicopters in the sky. He has gone from relying on voices to recognize people to now spotting familiar faces without assistance.

Reggie’s return to school brought further changes. Teachers noted that his ability to read and write was rapidly improving, and he could recognize more details in the classroom. Reggie has resumed reading small words in books and doing simple math with numbers—tasks that had once seemed out of reach. His parents also noticed his joy in achieving these milestones, with newfound independence in activities that once required assistance.

Looking Ahead: A vision for Future

While Reggie’s journey is ongoing, the transformation has been profound. His family looks forward to a future where he continues to grow in independence. From the joy of playing football with his new “top bin” goal target to the simple pleasure of picking out sweets at the shop, Reggie’s quality of life has improved in ways his family once thought were only dreams.

Reggie’s story is a testament to the potential of Fedorov Restoration Therapy to change lives, restoring not just vision but also hope and independence for those with visual impairments. His journey inspires us all to believe in the power of perseverance and the possibility of a brighter future.
