      Situation

My Husband was diagnosed with RP several years back. The very nature of the condition was such that the seriousness of the condition comes through slowly but surely where one tends to be in denial till certain incidents lead to the realization. One fine day driving has to be given up and another day independence at night is lost. Banging into objects or people was suddenly the new norm. Many doctors, one response – no treatment today but the future holds promise in the form of stem cells and gene therapy. How about today? – the silence just meant being prepared for the worst! This was the case till someone sends an innocuous link as a text…

Ophthalmologist was pleasantly surprised with my husband's outcomes - something that is not known to be associated with a progressive condition like RP.

"Although we have a long way to go, the progress seen so far is in itself nothing short of a miracle. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Fedorov and his team for giving us this hope and showing us the way.."

The initial reaction was pretty much on the lines of - “Well, another one!”. However, this one – Dr. Fedorov’s restorevision.com site – did seem different. It did not have any tall claim or miracle cures but did portray a certain level of honesty and confidence at the same time. There was also transparency and a logical explanation around treating complex conditions. More importantly, the treatment was available ‘now’ rather than in some unknown future.

After doing all the possible due diligence in terms of writing to Dr. Fedorov on the treatment as well as connecting with a few other patients to understand their experience we made up our mind to give this a try. The only big concern we had was that vision improvement was one thing but potential adverse or counter effects was something that we wanted absolute clarity on. Dr. Fedorov clearly explained the treatment methodology and alleviated the concerns and also turned our skepticism to hope through some solid evidences of successes with this treatment. The doctor highlighted the caveats as well.

      Treatment

The long-awaited treatment finally started in Berlin and everyday was a different experience. There were many other patients who were undergoing the procedure- for some, the difference was immediate while for my husband there was nothing notable for the first few days. However, gradually some subtle changes could be noted especially in the dark to light and light to dark adaptability. Towards the second week more changes were observed like in the peripheral vision. Dr. Anton and Dr. Julia took very good care through-out the course of the treatment while Katya and Dennis were very kind and professional. The overall experience was very good. Although, the tests immediately after the treatment did not show any significant improvement, subjective changes were observed.

      Results

After three months now since the treatment and diligent training regimen as advised by Dr. Fedorov, the latest Visual field report has shown positive changes. The local ophthalmologist was pleasantly surprised with these changes- something that is not known to be associated with a progressive condition like RP.

Just to sum it up – although we have a long way to go, the progress seen so far is in itself nothing short of a miracle. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Fedorov and his team for giving us this hope and showing us the way.
